Covid boosters 2021/22

We started our booster campaign on 7th October with patients over age of 80. Last doses were given on 20th January 2022. We delivered 911 doses. Booster clinics in our surgery are now finished.

Primary Covid vaccination schedule 2020/21

Updated 24/09/2021

GPs were first involved in vaccinating patients over 70 years old. We vaccinated 345 patients in this age group.

As you might have heard in the media, at some stage in April/May we were able to start offering vaccination for patients 18-59 years old with very specific clinical criteria. We sent invitations to 851 patients.

Please note that hospital teams / consultants will be also involved in identifying vulnerable patients from younger age groups, so if you are offered a vaccine in hospital we would advise you to take it.

We would love to vaccinate all our patients now, but given the scarcity of vaccines that is not possible. Please keep an eye on this webpage for updates.

Please note that any appointment offered by the surgery for Covid vaccination is based on HSE`s promise to deliver vaccinations. Shall they fail to deliver, we might be forced to cancel.

We are using Pfizer vaccine. We are now finished with primary vaccination programme, we delivered over 2000 doses. If you were still not vaccinated (dose 1 and 2), follow link below to find HSE clinic.

We use Pfizer vaccine in our surgery for patients over 70 years old.

After vaccination

Please read under link below about common side effects that you can expect to experience within 48 hours after vaccination. There is no need to be worried about them and no need to seek medical review shall they occur.

If you feel very unwell or your side effects last for longer that 48h after vaccination, please call the surgery or the out of hours service (NEDOC 1850 777 911).

If you have mild side effects and you wish to report them, you can do it directly to Health product Regulatory authority (HPRA) here:

Remember to attend for your second dose and bring your vaccination card with you.

The current definition of fully vaccinated is as follows:

  • 7 days after the second Pfizer-BioNTech dose (this is the vaccine used in our surgery)
  • 14 days after the second Moderna dose
  • 15 days after the second AstraZeneca /Vaxzevria dose

After your vaccination it is important that you continue to practice social distancing and wear a face covering. The vaccine takes time to take effect and it is not yet clear if it prevents transmission of Covid 19 so you could potentially give Covid 19 to someone else.

Definition for “Vaccine divident” is:

  • one week after second dose of Pfizer vaccine
  • two weeks after second dose of Moderna vaccine
  • four weeks after first dose of AstraZeneca / Vaxzevria vaccine
  • two weeks after Janssen vaccine
